Aromatherapy uses essential oils to make you feel calm, relaxed, or energised and increase your sense of well-being. The oils work by way of absorption into the skin by being massaged with them, bathing or inhaling them with your sense of smell via steam. All of our massage treatments use aromatherapy. What exactly are these amazing little plant hormones are good for?
The essential oils used in aromatherapy are extracted from raw plants, which may be flowers, berries, bark, wood, roots, leaves, resin, peel or seeds. Only a tiny amount of oil is needed before being blended with a larger amount of ‘carrier oil’ such as jojoba, sweet almond or grape seed. The most common flower oils use camomile, lavender, rose and jasmine whilst those extracted from trees are eucalyptus and sandlewood.
The healing power of these hormone ‘properties’ are often used for:
-Relieving stress and anxiety.
-Sleep better; wether you have problems getting to sleep or staying asleep.
-Aid relaxation.
-Relive tiredness or aching muscles.
-Soothe chronic pain.
-Aid concentration.
Massage treatments with the use of essential oils can have benefits for psychological well-being and a positive effect in reducing anxiety.
Some pure-oils are not suitable if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, so please always advise one of our trained therapists in Torquay at the time of booking. Also it’s worth noting, if you’re thinking about hitting one of our glorious beaches post treatment, be aware that some citrus oils (Orange, lemon and bergamot) are photosensitive, which means you could burn more easily.
Scents can affect how you feel, and help you relax by triggering a part of our brain called the limbic system, which is linked with our emotions. Smell is a very powerful sense!
We look forward to treating you in Torquay. Please contact us for more.
